iPad repair costs in Australia — every model, every repair.
iPad screens are bigger, more expensive, and harder to replace than phone screens. Here's every repair cost for every current iPad model in Australia — from the budget iPad 10th gen to the M4 iPad Pro — at both independent shops and Apple authorised service.
iPad Pro — the premium tier
The iPad Pro is Apple's most expensive tablet and the most expensive to repair. The M4 iPad Pro introduced a tandem OLED display — the first OLED iPad — which drives screen costs significantly higher than previous LCD-based Pros.
iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) — 2024+
Screen: $399–$549 indie | ~$579 Apple (tandem OLED — most expensive iPad screen). Battery: $149–$199 indie | ~$169 Apple. Charging port (USB-C): $99–$169. Worth repairing? Almost always — retails $1,999–$2,799 AUD. Even the $549 screen repair is under 30% of replacement cost.
iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) — 2024+
Screen: $299–$449 indie | ~$449 Apple. Battery: $129–$179 indie | ~$149 Apple. Charging port: $89–$149. Worth repairing? Yes — retails $1,599–$2,399 AUD.
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (M2/M1) — older models
Screen: $349–$549 indie | ~$529 Apple (LCD, cheaper parts than M4 OLED). Battery: $129–$179 indie. Worth repairing? Yes if under 3 years old. M1 models are approaching the borderline — check resale value first.
iPad Air — the sweet spot
The iPad Air offers the best repair-to-value ratio. It's premium enough to hold resale value but uses a standard LCD (or Liquid Retina) display that's significantly cheaper to replace than the Pro's OLED.
iPad Air 13-inch (M3/M2) — 2024+
Screen: $249–$399 indie | ~$399 Apple. Battery: $119–$179 indie | ~$149 Apple. Charging port: $89–$139. Worth repairing? Yes — retails $1,299+ AUD. Screen repair pays for itself in preserved resale value.
iPad Air 11-inch (M3/M2)
Screen: $199–$349 indie | ~$329 Apple. Battery: $99–$149 indie | ~$129 Apple. Charging port: $79–$129. Worth repairing? Yes — retails $999+ AUD.
iPad mini — surprisingly expensive to repair
The iPad mini's compact size makes it trickier to repair than larger iPads — tighter component spacing, more delicate flex cables. Repair costs are disproportionately high relative to the device's value.
iPad mini 7th gen (A17 Pro) / 6th gen (A15)
Screen: $179–$329 indie | ~$329 Apple. Battery: $99–$149 indie | ~$129 Apple. Worth repairing? Borderline for screen repair — the mini retails at $799 AUD, so a $329 screen repair is 41% of replacement cost. Battery replacement ($99–$129) is always worth it. For screen damage, compare against buying a refurbished mini.
Standard iPad — the math gets tricky
iPad 10th gen (A14) — 2022+
Screen: $149–$269 indie | ~$249 Apple. Battery: $89–$129 indie | ~$109 Apple. Worth repairing? Screen: probably not. The iPad 10th gen costs $529 new and ~$350 refurbished. A $269 screen repair on a $350 device doesn't make sense. Battery: yes at $89–$109. Honest advice: If the screen is cracked on a standard iPad, consider buying a refurbished replacement instead.
iPad vs iPhone repair — key differences
Bigger screens cost more. An iPad Pro 12.9" screen has roughly 6x the display area of an iPhone. More glass, more LCD/OLED material, more digitiser — more cost. Expect iPad screen repairs to cost 1.5–2x equivalent iPhone tier pricing.
No Face ID complications on most iPads. Only the iPad Pro (2018+) and iPad Air (2022+) have Face ID. Older iPads and the standard iPad use Touch ID (home button or top button), which is simpler to handle during repairs. This makes most iPad screen replacements less risky than iPhone screen replacements.
iPad batteries last longer but cost more to replace. Larger batteries (7,500–11,000 mAh vs 3,000–4,700 mAh on phones) last 3–5 years before degradation is noticeable. But the physical battery replacement is harder — iPads use more adhesive and have less internal modularity than iPhones.
Apple's repair pricing is more competitive on iPads. For phones, independent shops are usually 20–40% cheaper than Apple. For iPads, the gap narrows to 10–25% because iPad parts are less commoditised in the aftermarket. On certain repairs (battery, back panel), Apple can actually be cheaper.
Samsung Galaxy Tab — the Android alternative
Samsung's Galaxy Tab S-series is the main Android tablet competitor to iPad. Repair costs are comparable:
Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra (14.6"): Screen $299–$549 indie. Battery $119–$189. The Ultra's massive display is expensive but Samsung authorised service may offer competitive pricing for known issues.
Galaxy Tab S10+/S10 FE: Screen $249–$449 indie. Battery $99–$169. Similar repair economics to iPad Air.
Galaxy Tab A9/A9+ (budget): Screen $109–$229 indie. Battery $79–$129. Budget tablets have the same repair-vs-replace problem as the standard iPad — the repair cost can approach 50%+ of replacement value.
Google Pixel Tablet
The Pixel Tablet has iFixit parts support (like Pixel phones), making it one of the more DIY-friendly tablets. Screen: $199–$349 indie. Battery: $99–$149. Google's repair partnership with iFixit means genuine parts with video guides are available for confident DIYers.
The repair-vs-replace decision for tablets
Tablets have a worse repair-to-value ratio than phones. Here's why: phones retain 40–70% of their value after 2 years, while tablets retain 30–50%. That means the "40% rule" kicks in faster on tablets.
Always repair: iPad Pro (any gen), iPad Air under 3 years old, Galaxy Tab S-series under 2 years old — these hold enough value to justify repairs.
Consider replacing: Standard iPad, iPad mini with screen damage, any budget Android tablet, any tablet over 4 years old — the repair cost often exceeds 40% of what a refurbished replacement costs.
Always replace battery: Battery replacement is worth it on virtually every tablet model — $89–$199 for 3–5 more years of daily use is the best ROI repair in the device world.
